First Baptist Church of Jeffersonville recently honored Annie Smith upon her retirement after 24 1/2 years as church secretary. She served with Pastor Jerry Smart, left, for the first 22 years and Pastor Tony Gualtieri since he came to the church in February of 2018. Her family, friends, and First Baptist church members joined in the celebration of appreciation and thanksgiving and signed the matte surrounding the framed Jeremiah 29:11-13 Scripture as God leads her on her newest journey.
LOAVES AND FISHES: God’s Love on the Menu
Teams from First Baptist take their turns a few Saturdays a year to prepare and serve meals to those in need. The effort, which involves several churches, takes place at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in downtown Jeffersonville. Crowds range from 75 to 145 people of all ages, depending on the time of year.
From serving in the food line to giving out hot and cold beverages and desserts to washing and putting away trays and dishes, the teams hand out hefty doses of God’s love and caring while reaping great fellowship in the process.
First Baptist’s popular monthly outing for lunch, Joy Riders, traveled to Joe Huber’s Family Farm Restaurant in Starlight in October for a bountiful meal. Several participating seniors posed in front of the church van, while others drove.
